Sizes are for whole beans with room above the zipper. Dark roasts weigh less per bean, so give them a little more room.

Bag sizes are written as width x height + gusset, measured on the outside of the empty bag.
A 6 x 9 + 3.5 in bag is 6 inches wide and 9 inches tall, with a 3.5 inch bottom gusset. In metric that’s about 15 x 23 cm with a 9 cm gusset.
The gusset is the folded panel at the bottom (or sides) that opens up when you fill the bag. It’s what lets a stand up pouch stand, and it adds a lot of room. Flat pouches have no gusset, so the size is just width x height.
Height includes the seal and zipper area at the top, so plan on about an inch (2.5 cm) of the bag holding no product.

Tips for getting the size right
Size by volume, not just weight
Light, airy products like popcorn, freeze dried candy and loose tea need much bigger bags than their weight suggests.
Leave headroom
Keep about an inch (2.5 cm) above the product so the zipper closes easily and the seal has a clean surface.
Fill a real sample
Nothing beats pouring your product into a blank bag. Ask us for samples in the sizes you’re considering.
Think about the shelf
A slightly bigger bag can mean a bigger front panel for your branding. Sometimes the right size is about looks, not fit.

How do I convert bag sizes from inches to centimetres?
Multiply by 2.54. A 6 x 9 in bag is about 15 x 23 cm. Our size finder shows both.
What does gusset mean on a mylar bag?
A gusset is a folded panel that opens up when the bag is filled. A bottom gusset lets a pouch stand up. Side gussets make boxy bags like traditional coffee bags.
What is the difference between 1 gallon and 5 gallon mylar bags?
A 1 gallon bag is usually about 10 x 14 in and holds roughly 3 kg of rice. A 5 gallon bag is about 20 x 30 in and is used to line a 5 gallon food storage bucket.
